What is Family Weekend?
Since 2003, Mason has welcomed families to campus for Family Weekend. At Mason, we believe family is made up of many different people – parents, siblings, cousins, roommates, best friends, significant others, children, and more. Family Weekend provides families with the opportunity to come together to connect, have fun, celebrate and make new memories, which is why our schedule includes events for the whole family. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we moved Family Weekend to a virtual format, but that won’t stop the fun!
When is Family Weekend 2020?
Family Weekend has virtual events spanning October 23–November 12.
Why is Family Weekend spanning multiple weeks throughout October and November?
Family Weekend is typically held on a weekend in October or November. By holding a virtual Family Weekend, we can keep our traditional timeframe and continue to provide a wide variety of programming that fits the lives and schedules of our diverse Mason family population.
How much does it cost to participate in Virtual Family Weekend?
All events are free!
How do I register for the Family Weekend virtual events?
Online registration is required for most events, and the registration links are listed within the Schedule of Events.
Can I still come to George Mason’s campus even though all the Family Weekend events are virtual?
Yes, but you must complete the Mason COVID Health✓™, an online screening tool, if you plan to visit campus in any capacity this fall. If you are visiting campus, we encourage you to utilize our Digital Activity Guides! These guides provide event and activity options for families visiting campus, Northern Virginia, or Washington, D.C.
If I visit campus, where should I park?
If you plan to visit to campus, you can park in the visitor parking that is available at either Mason Pond (Parking Deck?), the Shenandoah area (any specific lots?), or the Rappahannock River Parking Deck for the prevailing rates. There are also daily and weekend parking visitor options, as well free weekend parking in Lot K. For more information, visit Transportation.gmu.edu/Parking-Services/Visitor.
I want to participate in Family Weekend, but none of the scheduled virtual events fit my schedule. What should I do?
We created the At-Home Digital Activity Guide just for you! Spend time with your family using the suggested activities or create some of your own.
